TripIt makes travel easier by sending your itinerary to your cell phone or email so you’ll never miss a flight connection again. TripIt will automatically import your itineraries from all the airlines (including Southwest), cruise lines, hotels, and car rentals you’re using, so you can get on with the business of exploring the new city you’re visiting.

It even collects social networking updates and photos, reservations from travel sites such as Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity, and restaurant reservations made on OpenTable.

Airbnb is one of the best apps when travelling because it allows you to see people’s homes and explore different parts of the world. It’s worth it for everyone.

Airbnb lets you book vacation homes and/or guest houses. Some of these are entire homes, while others are private or shared rooms in homes.

There are listings in all sorts of destinations – from remote mountaintops to popular ski resorts. You can also filter the results by the time of year, the number of places available for rent, and other factors.

3. Kayak: Search Flights

Kayak is an invaluable tool for finding and booking cheap flights. It’s my personal favourite of all the flight-finding apps, as it allows you to see prices from multiple sites at once, so you have a clear idea of what the cheapest fare really looks like—saving you time and money. And you can track price trends over several days to figure out how to get the best deals.

4. Google Maps: Navigation

Google Maps is one of the most popular apps on any smartphone. Well, you’ve probably used the app yourself and realized how useful it could be when you’re travelling. It allows us to map our locations and provides us with easy-to-understand directions.

Google Maps is a fantastic app to have on any device, especially if you’re travelling to a country you aren’t familiar with. But it isn’t the best. That title goes to Google Maps.

5. Google Translate

When travelling to a foreign country, Google Translate is your best friend. The app provides free translation of text and speech in 90 languages, making it perfect for tourists who may not speak the language of their hosts. The app also includes camera functionality which allows users to point their camera at a sign or other text and have Google translate the text into their own language.

6. Uber

Uber is easy to use, a hassle-free app that can save you time and money. An excellent option for times when you just want to relax and someone else handles driving.

Search for cars in your area and quickly request a pick-up. Set your drop-off location, pay with a debit or credit card, and rate your driver after the trip. It’s seamless and easy, and it will save you money on taking cabs.

7. Grab car: Southeast Asia

Grab is a great way to get around if you are travelling to Southeast Asia. Grab is an alternative to Uber.

While Uber would be ideal but it’s difficult or impossible to use in many cities in Southeast Asia, the only option available to help you make your way through the region is Grab car.

8. XE Currency

XE Currency is a popular currency converter app that provides live exchange rates to over 180 countries. It can also be used as the default calculator in some browsers and is optimized for iPhone, iPad and Android.

10. Couchsurfing: Stay with local

Couchsurfing is a community-driven travel website that creates connections between people. People who have free space on their couches host travellers.

Travellers get an opportunity to enjoy some local hospitality at no cost, while locals get to meet new people with different views and cultures in an intimate setting as opposed to a hotel.

When you use Couchsurfing as your accommodation, you get the added advantage of travelling on the cheap, too.

If you’re looking for an app that can help you find the best accommodation, sightseeing spots, and even travelling routes, TripAdvisor is a great place to start. It’s advantageous if you’re planning on visiting several places in one trip since it allows you to create your own itinerary and map out the locations you want to see.

The TripAdvisor app is another excellent tool for travellers, as it gives you access to over 500 million reviews and opinions from people who’ve already been there and done that. Plus, it features a useful offline mode so you can still search for things to do even when you don’t have an internet connection at all.
