When talking about nightlife in Bern (Bern Nightlife), the first word that comes to my mouth is “vibrant”. People living in Bern are habituated to casual after-work hangouts at bars, operas, and theatres. But when you are a tourist in Bern, you surely don’t want to spend the night away gulping cocktails; you would want to see more of the town.
Whether you are on a Bern day trip or for a few days in Bern, there are a few things that I’d suggest you definitely check out at night. Worry not; this article doesn’t revolve entirely around bars, cocktails and mocktails. There’s so much more that I’ve covered in this article, which will give you an insight into how vibrant the nightlife of Bern is.
1. Old Town
Walking along the cobblestoned street with well-lit old architectural buildings on both sides will make you feel like you’re in a magical world. It’s not much fun to walk around the old town in the morning. But the combination of the night sky and yellow lights of the building is a treat to the eyes.
There are markets and bars in almost every street of the old town. The colourful, busy and well-lit environment of these markets and bars at night can rejuvenate any soul wandering around the streets. If you’re not a Muslim, you might want to taste beers here as Bern is famous as Switzerland‘s beer capital. But being a Muslim, I’d avoid the hassle and look for some halal drinks around.
2. Evening Cruise at Bern Lakes
A mesmerizing way to enjoy the Bern nightlife is to take an evening cruise at any of its lakes. BLS arranges evening cruises on Lake Brienz, Lake Thun, and Lake Biel. If you’ve never heard of BLS before, let me inform you that BLS Connects is the largest transportation service in Switzerland that offers trains, boats, buses, cars and freight transportation in Switzerland.
It would be best to remember that there is a specific timetable for all evening cruises. These cruises aren’t available throughout the year. For example, the evening cruise on the “Lötschberg” lake steamer is available on Saturdays from June 25 to August 27 2022.
Fajita Cruise is available on Thursdays from May 5 to June 30 2022. BLS offers many other evening cruises; each has its own timetable and different experience to provide. So, before planning your trip to Bern, check out which cruise will be available during your trip to enjoy the best of the nightlife in Bern. You can find out about evening cruises in Bern from here.
3. Sky Terrace
How can you end your Bern trip without checking out the magnificent view of Bern nightlife from the Sky Terrace? That’s a must while you’re in the city, even if you’re here for a night. The Sky Terrace is a rooftop bar at the Schweizerhof Hotel.
The main attractive thing about this bar is that its menu changes every season. During winter, it serves hot drinks and fondue. Now that it is spring, it is serving summer drinks and snacks. You’ll be mesmerized by the magical city view from comfortable seating at the Sky Terrace.

4. Cinedome Muri
If you’re in Bern along with your family, Cinedome Muri is a great place to spend some quality time during the night. There are ten cinemas, a Game Zone, a modern Cinebowling with Sports Bar, a Kids Corner and a restaurant.
The cinema halls in Cinedome Muri promise to offer an unparalleled film experience. You’ll have a fantastic time at the Cinebowling/Sportsbar area if you’re a sports fan. It also has a separate bowling area for children with smaller balls and ramps decorated with dinosaurs.
Gamezone offers several games, starting from Billiards to stuffed toy claw machines. Kids’ Corner is a separate area for kids where your kid will find everything that their hearts desire. Lastly, you can taste some delicious burgers at the famous German chain, HANS IM GLÜCK Burgergrill Restaurant.
- Location: Feldstrasse 32, 3073 Muri bei Bern, Switzerland
5. Museum Night
Museum Night in Bern takes place once every year. Bern’s museums are decorated with bright colours on a specific night to offer visitors an informative and cultural event. Other than museums, the Swiss National Library, the University of the Arts, the Botanical Garden, and many other institutions open their doors to the night owls.
Cultural, artistic and culinary performances fuse together to offer visitors a memorable once in a lifetime experience. Thousands of people from all over the country visit Bern only to attend Museum Night. While you’re in Bern, check out when the Museum night is happening. You’re lucky if Museum Night takes place during your Bern trip.
I’d suggest you plan your trip to Bern during Museum Night to enjoy the best of Bern. This year’s museum night has already happened in March. Next year it will take place on March 17.
